Appearance and Colouration

The Redfin Fairy Wrasse is a visually striking species exhibiting notable sexual dimorphism:

• Males: Feature a vibrant red body with ruby-red fins. The dorsal and anal fins often have a deep red margin with subtle blue accents. During courtship, males intensify their colours, showcasing dynamic fin displays to attract females.

• Females and Juveniles: Generally display a more subdued reddish-pink hue, with a white belly and a softer contrast in fin colours.

 

Natural Habitat and Behaviour

Cirrhilabrus rubripinnis is native to the Western Pacific Ocean, found particularly in the Philippines and Indonesia. They inhabit coral reef environments with moderate water movement at depths ranging from 10 to 40 metres (33 to 130 feet).

• Social Structure: Typically found in small groups, with a dominant male overseeing several females and juveniles.

• Activity: Diurnal and active swimmers, spending most of their time mid-water, foraging for planktonic prey.

• Behaviour: Peaceful and non-aggressive, making them an excellent addition to community aquariums.

Diet and Feeding

In their natural environment, Redfin Fairy Wrasses primarily feed on zooplankton. In captivity, they readily adapt to a variety of meaty foods.

• Captive Diet:

• Offer vitamin-enriched frozen mysis shrimp and brine shrimp.

• Provide high-quality marine flake and pellet foods.
