Goldlined Rabbitfish

The Goldlined Rabbitfish (Siganus lineatus), also known as the Golden-lined Spinefoot, is a vibrant marine fish recognized for its distinctive coloration and utility in algae control within aquariums. Belonging to the family Siganidae, this species is native to the Indo-Pacific region, inhabiting coral reefs and lagoons.

Siganus lineatus exhibits a striking appearance:

Body Colouration: Light blue body adorned with metallic gold lines, dots, and dashes, with a prominent lemon-yellow blotch at the base of the tail. 

 

Natural Habitat and Behaviour

In the wild, the Goldlined Rabbitfish is found in the Indo-Pacific region, inhabiting coral reefs and lagoons, often in shallow waters where they graze on algae-covered surfaces. 

Social Structure: Typically found in shoals, indicating a social nature. 

 

Aquarium Care

When keeping Siganus lineatus in an aquarium, consider the following:

Tank Size: A minimum of 300 liters (79 gallons) is recommended to accommodate their size and swimming needs. 

Aquascaping: Provide ample space for swimming along with hiding spots using live rock structures.

Diet: Primarily herbivorous; feed a diet rich in marine algae and vegetable matter to maintain health and reduce the likelihood of coral nipping. 

Tank Mates: Generally peaceful; however, they may exhibit aggression towards conspecifics. Suitable tank mates include other non-aggressive species.

 

Due to their venomous spines, caution is advised during tank maintenance to prevent injury.
